Appendix 16 - Best Practice - Aide memoire for levels of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for Healthcare Workers when providing patient care
The following table outlines the recommended PPE required to minimise the risk of cross-transmission of infection to self and others when providing patient care.
Example infectious agents and clinical scenarios are provided for each level of PPE however clinical decisions made by staff regarding use/non-use of PPE will depend on a risk assessment which should include e.g. the presenting symptoms, risk of acquisition and the availability of treatment.
The poster can be used in conjunction with Appendix 11 and the A-Z of pathogens for pathogen specific guidance and supporting materials.
